It is therefore important to get rid of it in storage areas, in order to extend the shelf life of fruit and vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>The catalyst is fitted with a fan that draws air from the storage room. As the air is drawn in, ethylene in the air is burned by an electrical resistor (230-260 <sup>o<\/sup>C). The air then cools down through a heat exchanger and returns to the storage room free of ethylene.
